Corokia and Carmichaelia

Corokia is a plant native to New Zealand and there is one variety endemic to Australia. In Europe one of the species is known as the zig zag plant. The word Corokia is a hybrid, a combination of Maori and English. The leaves are often very small, spoon-shaped and small red, yellow or black berries attract birds. The flowers of most varieties are yellow and star-shaped. They can often be found in suburban gardens around Aotearoa New Zealand. You will see plenty of Corokia in my artworks and I grow them in my home garden. They are a fantastic and resilient plant!
